Baby's Got FurnitureIt's been a busy weekend. Mrs. B's mother (Gramma Bluesky) sent us the changing table that we put on our Amazon baby registry. It's pretty big, and white and ... um ... sturdy. Which is all you can ask for in a changing table - that it's big enough for the kid, and that it doesn't collapse under his weight. So I was in a furniture-assembling frenzy. After a little suspense ("honey, where's my cordless screwdriver?") it came together pretty quickly. Here 'tis. While I was in the aforementioned frenzy, I put together Oliver's crib. We were given the crib several weeks ago from the in-laws (Mrs. B's brother and wife) and it's been sitting for weeks in pieces in the guest bedroom. Or, as I used to call it, the back bedroom. (I don't know why I call it that. Our bedroom is actually more "back" than the "back bedroom." It sounds like a Canadian term.) Anyway, I digress. The crib got put together, but not also without suspense. There are springs? Four of them? I put the entire deal together, and found that I still had these four springs with no idea where to put them. Phone calls were placed - finally, the brother was located. He was smart enough to take several close-up photos of the assembled crib as reference for us. So he sent us four of them, and from those, I was able to ascertain where the springs went. The unanswered question - why are they there? They're not very functional, but at least I don't have to look at them. Anyway, here's the crib. You'll find that there's a trend developing for Oliver's toys and surroundings. It's so strange, because I've been adamant about preparing Oliver for the assault of advertising and consumerism. I don't want him to buy something just because it has a picture of Shrek or whatever on it. But show me anything with the old-school Pooh characters on it, and I turn into a puddle of mush. I guess I don't mind that Pooh characters are commercially available. I think it's good that he'll have a little Pooh and a little Tigger to put in his hands, so the stories are that much more real for him. On the other hand, if he brings home even one Mary-Kate and Ashley movie, I'm sending him to therapy. Now that the room's got furniture in it, I've stopped calling it the back bedroom. Now it's Oliver's room. 7:37:39 AM |
