A Blur of Inactivity

Not much to report, kiddies.  Little O has still not made his arrival.  I'm finishing my last baby-free week of work.  Mrs. B started her summer/maternity leave this week, so she's at home resting, waiting for the knock at the proverbial door.

We have been running on two due dates, May 21st and May 26th.  The 21st came and went last Saturday without a peep, and today is due date #2.  Still no peeps.

It was my birthday yesterday, and I was sorta hoping that he'd decide to pick that day to arrive, so I'd have a shared birthday like John and Sean Lennon.  But that plan didn't work, either.  Ornery kid.

Our doctor doesn't want him to stay in too long (for one thing, the placenta starts aging and doesn't deliver nutrition the way it should), so we've started making plans for inducing.  So if he doesn't make it out before Sunday, we'll start with a lovely-sound procedure called "ripening the cervix."  Yes, the proper term is ripening.  Like melons.  Don't ask me why.

Then on Monday, Mrs. B gets the pitocin, which should start us on the grand roller coaster known as labor.  Although it could start on its own on Sunday once the cervix is ready.  Or it could just start up on its own anytime between now and Sunday.  It's kinda like the weather - you can make predictions, you can look at graphs, but ultimately no one really knows how it's gonna work out.  (Speaking of weather, it hit 88 degrees today in Seattle.  For real, no one really knows how to predict some things.)

Here's an interesting thing - Oliver will be born a Gemini, just like his mom and dad.  We will have three Geminis in the same house.

Ollie's also going to born in the same Chinese calendar year (rooster) as I was.  So we'll have the same sign on both astrological calendars.  That's pretty unusual, dont'cha think?

We're taking bets on whether he'll also be left-handed.  Both mommy and daddy are both left-handed also.  Does that stuff work genetically, too?
