Lies, Lies, Every Time You Close Your Eyes

It seems to me that the White House is in trouble.  The public relations coup that they thought they had (blaming Newsweek for its own disastrous reputation abroad) has blown up in their face.  Once they insisted that no abuse of the Koran had ever happened on their watch, stories began sneaking out that indeed, it had.  Here's some documented Koran abuse.  Here's some more.  It's all over the place.  Even Andrew Sullivan gets it.  How come Scott McClellan can't understand there's a problem here?

Just for good measure, how about the yahoos who are celebrating the desecration of the Koran?  Hey, thanks for helping America's image abroad.  Good luck when you get to the pearly gates and you have to explain this one.

Oh, and then there's Pat Tillman.  The Army tried to get away with a heroic story about Tillman dying in battle, when it turns out that he was killed by his own troops.  Oops.  And everybody knew about it, from day one.  Oops.  And now his family has come out guns a-blazing to denounce the Army for all of their shameful behavior - for lying about his actual cause of death, for lying at his memorial service standing next to his casket, for the sham investigation to find answers they already knew, for burning his uniform to hide the true cause of his death, for all of it.  "They blew up their poster boy," said his distraught mother.

Oops.

And there's more.  Oh, so much more.  Amnesty International says in a new report that Guantanamo is the world's new gulag.  Afghanistan's supposed puppet leader Karzai suddenly hates Bush's guts. Things are not going well.  No wonder they tried to make such a big deal out of the Newsweek story. Unfortunately, they can't even squash one story without ten more coming out to get them.
