The New York Times recently profiled the only all-female firefighting crew in the country. Cute feature. But not so cute that women remain so rare in the good-paying public safety jobs and in other resistantly male job categories like bond trader for example. Read EJ Graff and former MA Lt gov. Evelyn Murphy's takedown of the NYT premise here in the LATimes. (one stat: in NYC, under progressive Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the force of 11,500 firefighters has less than .02 percent women. That's a stat so low it's not even worth calculating.)
