Money Talks and Wal-Mart Listens The customer is always right. See what happens when we speak up -- when we talk about where we plan to spend, and NOT spend, our money? Wal-Mart just backed off its policy of not stocking "Plan B", the emergency contraceptive. With women fuming and suing -- two states (MA and IL) had already ordered Wal-Mart to stock emergency contraception as a common pharmaceutical. And more states were following. From Wal-Mart's statement: "We expect more states to require us to sell emergency contraceptives in the months ahead," said Ron Chomiuk, vice president of pharmacy for Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart. "Because of this, and the fact that this is an FDA-approved product, we feel it is difficult to justify being the country's only major pharmacy chain not selling it," Chomiuk said in a statement. Next reproductive health protest: If South Dakota won't allow its women citizens to control their reproductive lives, let's just leave and let the sucker turn back into the all-male mining camp it used to be. -RH   8:22:45 PM    comment []

South Dakota: No Woman's Land I've already told you to leave South Dakota if you're there and to avoid the place if you're not. Now that great fan of womanhood, San Francisco Chronicle online columnist Mark Morford, is also calling for all sexually active women to evacuate South Dakota immediately. Of course, as per Mark's style, his call to action is a bit more pungent than mine. Read here. His opening remarks: Attention all funky sexy single intelligent women of South Dakota (assuming there are any left): It is time. Pack it up. Strip the bed, box up the cat, load the U-Haul, call your hip friends over in Minneapolis, move out West, or East, or anywhere with a mind-set not stuck like a bloody nail in the moral coffin of 1845. Let this be your clarion call. Get the hell out, right now. Here is why: You state hates you. Your state, apparently run be pallid sexless demagogic men who think they know something of God and morality but know only ignominy and the smell of sulfur and death in their nightmares, thinks you are irresponsible dumb-ass meat, unable to handle your own decisions, your own body, your sex. Your state's leaders and your Republican governor, Mike Rounds, wish to treat you like meaningless, voiceless chattel. Get out now.
