Balancing Act In a NYTimes op-ed today, the Kenyon College admissions director (a woman too) tries to rationalize turning away many more qualified female applicants in favor of men in order to maintain a "gender balance." Reading the essay I thought at first it was refreshing as she frankly admitted that women with fabulous academic and extracurricular records had to compete harder than men to get into college these days as their application numbers increase but the slots for them don't. But then....she said sorry, this is how it has to be. Sounds like we're talking quotas here on a massive scale. Your thoughts? -RH 9:31:45 PM    comment []
