OK,
it's been almost a week of being in pain, and I'm sick of it. I
hurt my back in a minor way last week, but it went into a spasm that
nobody has been able to fix. I think I'm having a Back Attack!
I've visited my chiropractor twice, used herbs for muscle relaxation,
applied hot packs and ice packs, stretched, rested, walked, lay down,
even had x-rays and an MRI. I'm now on pharmaceutical muscle
relaxants, which at least gets me though the day without falling
over. Just falling asleep. zzzzz
If anybody out there is considering
having an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), let me offer this
testimonial: DON'T DO IT. If you really, really need one,
then go ahead. I opted to have one because the quantity of pain
I've been in made no sense, and it was only getting worse. The
MRI ruled out any major problems, which is good, but it felt
horrible. Lying entirely in a tube, motionless for 20 minutes, I
thought I was in a living nightmare. There were terrific pounding
noises and deep thrumming noises and ear-shattering rhythmic crashing
sounds, all happening in turns, over and over. I kept my eyes
closed and imagined I was in pleasant places, to keep my sanity.
In my mind I danced in a sunlit field, and stood on the ocean staring
at waves. I've never had claustrophobia, but this MRI could
surely induce it anyway. All that night and all the next day my
entire body buzzed, from the magnetic force of the MRI. I shudder
just recalling it. Never again.
