May Musings
May 11, 2006
Dawn's early light was not
inspiring when it shined in my eyes this morning. I opened one bleary
eye silently, so as not to disturb my sleeping brain. Aimed bleary eye
at cat. Telepathically received message of near-death experience due to
starvation. Opened other eye and notified brain of impending change in
position.
I
lurched gracefully upright. Wiggled my toes to inspire blood
circulation. Shuffled past the rabbit's door. Vaguely noticed the
rabbit leap in delight over the appearance of two family members at
dawn. He dove after the cat, who swatted him. Rabbit darted back
between my feet towards safety. I bravely soldiered on towards the
kitchen. "Why is it so bright?" I mused. Opening the curtains I saw an
inch or two of snow blanketing the outer world. "Hm" I mused further.
"It's mid-May." Fed cat. Returned immediately to bed. It's a day off
for both Gary and me. I mumbled that it had snowed. Gary poked the
blinds aside, shot one glance out the window, and moaned about his
seedlings in the garden.
At
9:00, both of us awoke with the zesty enthusiasm of the well-rested. As
the french toast sizzled, we noticed that there was no evidence at all
of the snow. Everything was damp but snow-free. By mid day, we were
lounging in the warm garden, barefoot. "Hm" I mused, more wakefully
than before. "It's Colorado!"
