So Much To Learn!
May 22, 2006
Over at Blogcabin, I discovered a catchy, cheery little film that inspired me to write a post for my other blog. Feel free to click and see what's shakin' at nhne, if you like. There's always plenty of food-for-the-brain over there.
I just got back from a long, intense weekend in Boulder, attending a conference. It was called "Just For The Health Of It" Prophet's Conference.
In this case, the word "prophet" refers to the fact that the presenters
are on the cutting edge of new forms of healing. I worked as part of
the conference staff, but still got to attend many of the events.
Presenters
included Lewis Mehl-Madrona, a medical doctor and traditional cherokee
medicine man, if I have it straight in my notes. (Since I was working,
I only caught portions of his talks.) He has written books on Coyote
Healing and Coyote Wisdom. Some of his clientele is way up in northern
Saskatchewan, and he had fascinating stories about their culture. His
talks were all about bridging cultures to find truer, deeper healing
through non-intrusive means. His peaceful, kind, quiet demeanor really
touched the hearts of those of us who got to hear him speak.
Another
presenter is a psychologist, Sandra Ingerman, who also does native
american shamanic healing in her practice. She led us through a
shamanic journey to discover our spirit teachers and receive healing.
That was a highlight of the weekend, for me.
Peter Fairfield is
a very forward-thinking and intuitive acupuncturist. He is helping to
bring new understanding forward, about how the various aspects of our
health (physical, emotional, mental) work together. He was a real
inspiration.
Dr. Norman Shealy did two workshops. He was so
much fun! Nearing 80, I believe, he was full of beans: tossing
attendees to the carpeted floor all weekend, adjusting their limbs and
advising them (and the gathered crowds) on how to change their diet to
eradicate their condition. His research was complex and eye-opening.
Dr.
Eric Pearl had the persona of a stand-up commedian. He had a routine
that mocked every aspect of natural healing. It was so funny we were
all howling with laughter. In the end, though, he had pared away the
extraneous beliefs and began discussing the basic core of natural
healing. We all gathered in groups around treatment tables, and were
surprised by the immediate effects of his healing methods.
Adam,
also known as the DreamHealer, was the big draw and the big mystery of
the weekend. He's a teenager who has been performing miracle cures at
a distance, for years. He's been studying anatomy, biology, quantum
physics and medicine lately, in order to understand better what he's
doing with his extraordinary gifts. Now that he is approaching age 20
and has a growing reputation, I understand that he'll soon be "going
public" so to speak. His parents have wisely sheltered him during his
teen years, so that he can have a normal life. Evidently most of his
classmates have no idea that he heals people around the world, in his
spare time.
I will be writing a more comprehensive report of the
weekend for my other blog.... but not til AFTER I've had a couple days
of napping to recover!
