Ten W Words

I've been tagged with a fun little meme. Thanks, Osray!
The idea is for me to list ten things in my life starting with the letter W. I think I can do that!

1) Willow trees... my favorite trees, my namesake, graceful and flexible. I admire their ability to survive the strongest of raging storms by being flexible.

2) Wallabys... our local Cheyenne Mountain Zoo currently has a Wallaby exhibit that they're advertising everywhere. Our zoo is on the side of a mountain, and bills itself as the highest elevation zoo in the world, if I'm not mistaken. I haven't been to see the Wallaby visitors yet.

3) Walls... the structure that holds me in and holds the elements out. The structure that holds my artwork up for easy viewing. The structure that we sometimes paint a new color, for the delight of it. Walls. Hm.
I have emotional walls too, that I've been discussing with my sister. I try not to let them go up, but sometimes they just zoom into existence to protect me from heartache. Then I have to work at melting them down again.

4) Weariness... What I am experiencing at this moment. I have so many things to do in my life, that I usually can't keep up. Every time I check my email, I have dozens waiting for me. Every time I check my phone messages, I have several new and several saved messages. The pile on my desk has had baby piles. I'm surrounded by work-not-yet-done. I'm perpetually behind. I need a secretary, or a maid and cook, or a millionaire to support me so I can be freed from some of this.

5) Willingness ... I'm willing to keep on going til I find a way to have a simpler life, or til I find a way to get some help with everything I have to do. I believe strongly enough in the value of my life and my projects that I'm willing to keep on keepin' on.

6) White ... Often presumed to be a color indicating the lack of pigment. In art school, I learned that white light is formed by combining all other colors together. White is the Alpha and the Omega of color. Strange to think that I am classified as a "white" person, when my skin is so deep tan and my hair is brown. Where's the white??

7) Walla Walla Washington ... I have to say that I am ignorant about this city, but I love to say its name. I just now learned that it has about 30,000 people, some vineyards, and a college founded by the Seventh Day Adventists. You can visit their site, or you can just enjoy saying the name Walla Walla. Walla Walla. Walla Walla! Walla Walla Washington Wallabys.

8) Weather ... This word represents our perception, measurements and opinions regarding the natural conditions of the elements around us. Can't say that I have much more to write about this particular phenomenon. We've had horrendous drought for years, and now we're in the middle of a week of rain! One thing about weather: ya can't figure it out. It does what it wants, when it wants.

9) Wisteria ... Something lovely, fragrant, graceful and artistic that adorns the most fortunate of gardens around the world. I've never had a wisteria in any garden I've owned, but I love them. Actually, I think wisterias are their own bosses, and wouldn't take well to being "owned" by someone.

10) Walker ... A piece of equipment that allows my nephew to stand upright and be as tall as other people. A prop that helped my grandmother get around for a brief period of her life. A colorful little device to allow babies to laughingly locomote without falling over. Thanks to Gary for this suggestion.

11) BONUS W WORD - Wellington ... A city in my beloved New Zealand, where a branch of my Greek relatives live. A city I was unable to visit when we vacationed in New Zealand, due to the a wild cyclone bringing monsoon rain that made driving 10 hours on the "other" side of the road to get there unthinkable for us newcomers.

Anybody want to do this one? It was kinda fun, when I sat down to do it. I'm surprised by the words that popped into mind first. Others might have seemed more logical, but this is what came out, so I'll go with it.
