Whoh. The German autotranslation is getting surrealer and surrealer now that the blog has actual German text in it. Apparently it retranslates the German phrase it originally created into ... well, stranger German.

Took a look at the German (auto)translation of my blog -- always a fun thing to do -- and came across this phrase:

Heißes Wonkette auf John auf Johntätigkeit!

Meaning "Hot Wonkette on John on John action." But I love how "John action" becomes a single word: Johntätigkeit.

Let's declare a Johntätigkeit day: John action day!

Even though there are four more months until the election, which means a mountain of campaign clips have yet to be written, we’d be shocked if we come across a sillier paragraph in the entire election season than the one that appeared in an AP article over weekend.

Not surprisingly the offending passage came from a story with an absurd premise; that Sen. John Kerry and his running mate Sen. John Edwards are unusually affectionate on the campaign trail. It’s a creepy GOP talking point first floated by Matt Drudge and then hammered with typical subtlety by the Washington Times' right-wing editor-in-chief, Wesley Pruden. For some reason, the AP took the bait and decided the angle was newsworthy. Here's what they came up with. Read the following graph, which breaks down an ordinary Kerry/Edwards campaign stump appearance frame-by-frame as if it were the Zapruder film, while keeping in mind it's a news story about a presidential campaign:

I wonder: what's going on that made me first think about this before I saw any of the news coverage? The utter predictability of the idiocy of political coverage is, of course, the most obvious answer.

One Year Blog Holidays

I was just wondering how best to kick-start a blog after a year away, and I ran across this post from Trash Heap.

What's the etiquette on taking a year or so break from your blog, and then resurrecting it? Do you spam your old blog buddies and tell them you're back? Or do you wait for them to run across it when they're checking their hit stats? If our budget hadn't been cut, we were going to hire singing telegrams, or at least b-grade actors and actresses to phone everyone. Who wouldn't want a phone call from Erin Gray or Lou Ferrigno?
