Dear George,
I’m not one for conspiracy theories, but there are times I swear Karl is giving the Democrats their marching orders. It’s difficult to believe that any organization could be so screwed up without outside help. Here you are, more vulnerable than any sitting president in our history. You’ve screwed up the economy, foreign affairs, the war on terror, and the Iraq enterprise. You’re chipping away at our civil liberties and have twisted our judicial system to the point where any person of a slightly darker shade of color can be incarcerated without charges and held indefinitely without even seeing a judge. Yet, the Democrats can only wring their hands and bemoan their lost opportunities to score points.
In their passive weepiness, they complain that the Republicans have painted them as being soft on national security. I mean, Jesus H. Christ, the only thing you’ve done for national security is to strut around with your balls hanging out while turning Iraq into the finest training ground for terrorists the world has ever seen!
Let’s face it, the only place in the country where national security is a burning issue in inside the beltway, because that’s where all the lobbyists for the defense and security industries hang out. It is they, and they alone, who defined reality for Congress. Which is good, because outside the beltway people are more concerned about domestic issues like holding on to their jobs, health care, and the manifold threats to their pensions and social security?
Believe me, George, the Democratic Party is the opposition every politician dreams of having.
Your admirer,
Belacqua Jones
