Dear George,
Hot flash, here, Big Guy! We gotta start getting America’s kids laid younger. I know, I know! I can just hear Dobson popping a vein, but you’ve got to make him understand that abstinence is counter productive to the corporatist state.
Here the deal: Traditionally, the instrument of oppression has been fear. Besides being archaic and cumbersome, it's inefficient and labor intensive. You need a domestic intelligence service, police and army, a prison infrastructure and before you know it, you’re administering a whole gulag. Even with all this, there’s always the danger that a people will transition from fear to rage giving you a revolt that is expensive to put down. A cost-benefit analysis of fear shows that the cost per unit of oppression is exorbitant.
A far more efficient way to oppress a people is through boredom. Instead of the raised fist of rebellion, you get the stifled yawn of indifference. Nothing induces boredom like sin, especially if it involves sex for sex’s sake. The person who takes an early plunge into a life of sin quickly learns sin’s dirty secret: after the initial rush, it’s boring as hell. If you don’t believe me, spend a couple of hours watching porn and see if you can stay awake.
This boredom manifests itself in several ways. First, there are the bored ones who are desperate to recreate sin’s initial rush, so they keep raising the bar. Eventually, they end up on controlled substances. They could care less what happens to the country because they are too adled to care about anything. Then there are those who shrug their shoulders and segue into lives of ironic detachment. They could care less what happens to the country as long as they don’t have to show up. Finally, you have the ones who repent and lead lives of bored propriety. Except for an occasional urge to stamp out sin, they rarely cause trouble and could care less what happens to the country as long as Jesus would approve.
All revolutions are puritanical, while a spent population is a quiescence population. We must get our kids on the bandwagon at an early age. Let the orgy begin!
Your admirer,
Belacqua Jones
