Dear George,

I see you have won another one.  I read in the papers this morning that more and more school districts are putting more emphasis on reading and math because your No Child Left Behind Act will penalize them if they do not perform well on math and reading tests.

The good news is that they are doing this by cutting back on social studies classes.  This is great because it means our children will know less about either history or civics.  These courses are dangerous because they expose the children to freedom and democracy, both of which tend to destabilize the corporatist state.

Memory is a dangerous thing, George.  It is too oriented to the past, and inculcates a strong sense of tradition that can make a person resistant to the fast-breaking trends of a rapidly changing society.  The corporatist state recognizes only the “now” that knows neither past nor memory.  Today is outdated, for as soon as the sun sets it becomes yesterday.  We need the instability of the eternal present, an ever-changing kaleidoscope that shifts and turns beneath us as it keeps the masses so dazzled they barely notice the razor wire being strung around them.

I admit that the history being taught in the public schools in of little threat.  What passes for history is simply the marketing of Brand America and the rebranding of a momentum driven by ego, greed, and stupidity as destiny.  The danger is that once a student’s interest was piqued, he might pick up some unauthorized texts and learn what this country was really about.

Education must be reframed to hide from our children the terrible truth that whomever God would destroy he first showers with gifts of such abundance that people come to believe they are blessed by God.  For, as soon as they believe this, they kill God and proceed to self-destruct.

Keep the little ones focused on their reading and math as you lobotomize their memories.  In this way, you insure that as adults they will read only trivia and fluff, and will never constitute a danger to the corporatist state.

Your admirer,

Belacqua Jones
