Dear George,

I read an article recently that said nobody wants to grow up anymore.  We are slowly becoming a nation of retards whose mental development remains stalled in our collective teens.  Where retardation was once treated, it is now celebrated, which makes your administration such a trendsetter.

In the days of yore, leadership required a rare combination of strength and wisdom.  Now the only requirement is a childish petulance.  Merry pranksters occupy the seats of power.  Humor has become demonic; instead of laughter, it produces suffering, though its entertainment value remains unchanged.  Power struts the balcony, wearing its garish costume for all the world to see and marvel at, even as its robes and silks hide the child cowering within.

Morality has always led a precarious life in the corridors of power, often treated like a mascot to be trotted out and shown off to visiting dignitaries. Sadly, in the world of the value-free judgments, even a mascot gets in the way, so the poor dear was shipped off the animal shelter and gassed.  Its better that way, with nothing to fight for or nothing to live for, only empty abstractions that are negated as quickly as they are touted. The good consumer is a nihilist at heart.

It is any wonder that life is better stoned.

Your admirer,

Belacqua Jones
