Dear George,

The greatest threat to the hegemony of the corporatist state is God.  This is why we need a solid wall between Him and the masses.  The last thing we can afford is a populace imbued by the Spirit.  The outcome would not be revolution but a refusal by the masses to take worldly power seriously.  To be ignored is the worst fate a power can suffer; it is worse than being overturned.  Power overturned is replaced by power and the cycle of oppressor and oppressed continues.  The Spirit offers release from this cycle, which is what makes it so dangerous.

Scripture is the wall that seals God off from the masses.  God is neutralized when scripture becomes an object of idolatry.  The Fundamentalists killed God when they insisted that every word in the Bible is literally true.  Israel will continue to keep the Middle East in turmoil as long as it thinks the Bible is a deed to Palestinian land.  Radical Muslims will continue to blow themselves up as long as they view the Prophet’s words through a literalist lens.  All three religions are complicit in the murder of the Spirit.

The key to successful literalization is selectivity.  Christians will be carriers of evil as long as they literalize that hotbed of theological mischief and mayhem, the Book of Revelation.  All hell would break loose if they ever literalized the Beatitudes.

All of your criminal activity has been possible because a good portion of your base believes we are nearing the End Time.  If one believes that the appearance of a Muslim antichrist signals the final battle between Good and Evil, after which Christ will come to judge the quick and the dead, why worry about a nuclear holocaust.  On the contrary, the true believer would welcome it since it would speed up the second coming.  The radioactive glow of the Good will signal their triumph over the forces of Evil.

Let’s face it!  The Rapture demands species extinction.  The dead can‘t be raised from the dead until they are all dead.

Your admirer,

Belacqua Jones
