Dear George,
What was the greatest accomplishment to come out of World War II, besides the Bomb? It was teaching America to surrender her liberty. And you, my Lord, are the one bringing this campaign to fruition.
When out of the rubble that was Nazi Germany there arose a Soviet Empire intent on our destruction (even though it never really was) our oligarchy realized that our only defense was to transform a democratic republic into a military empire. To do this, they needed a frightened people.
And O, how well they succeeded! Mushroom clouds, bomb shelters, commie infiltrators, queers, rampant sexuality, body odor and tooth decay all came together to create an anxious public that lacked the courage to be free. Freedom involves pain, so our oligarchy taught the public how to pop a pill to deaden the pain.
Gradually, America transitioned into a nuclearized security state in which a bloated leech known as the Military-Industrial Complex slowly drained the lifeblood out of the body politic.
One tiny grain of grit abraded this movement, and that was history. Those who read history are dangerous which is why our public education system has worked so hard to make its study an exercise in bland boredom. But whenever someone lifted their head out of their history book and pointed out that empire and democracy have never coexisted, and that empire is a guaranteed path to self-destruction, one of your sages uttered the four word that toll the death bell for a civilization: It’s different this time.
The first thing a nation must do when it aspires to greatness is marginalize the truth, and replace facts with fairytales. In the imperial state, the only winners are the delusional. Those who speak truth are unfit to rule. By that criterion, you are the fittest ruler this nation has ever had.
Lead us forth, George, into the flames of glory, the flames of immolation. History glorifies the dead, not the survivors. Let the flames carry you upwards to the temple of immoral grandeur that awaits you.
Your admirer,
Belacqua Jones
