Dear George,
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: You and yours are the scam kings of the world. Your rip-offs dazzle, from the Iraq enterprise to the gutting of the Constitution. You are fast becoming the patron saint of the criminal mind.
But the scam that really tickles my pubies is your “personal responsibility” rip-off. That baby sings! The worker is “personally responsible” for his plant moving over seas because he was paid too much and had too many benefits. He is responsible if he falls ill and medical bills drag him into debt because he should have taken better care of himself. And, he is responsible if a subprime lender cons him into a mortgage he can’t afford, because had he paid more attention in school, he would have understood the fine print.
All the high-flown rhetoric about a drone being responsible for his personal irresponsibility conveniently overlooks that fact that personal irresponsibility is grounded in a corporatist irresponsibility that markets artificially created needs and then urges the drones to tap out the equity in their homes to satisfy these created needs by buying stuff they don’t need, and by handing out credit cards like they were free candy even as the corporatists pull the economic rug out from under them by shipping their jobs overseas.
Claiming that economic freedom that will flow from an “ownership society” assumes that the individual in on an equal footing with the Corporatist State. This is like putting Tiny Tim in the ring with Mike Tyson and calling it a fair fight.
In the past, economic exploiters roared, “Fuck you!” Now they croon, “That looks nice on you.”
Your admirer,
Belacqua Jones
