Dear George,

The guiding principle of your administration is that ideology trumps results every time.  It is far better to go down in flames while maintaining ideological purity than to triumph by jettisoning it.

You are showing the world that you are a man of principle by your determination to win in Iraq even as we’re losing.  Our hubric ideology has us convinced that we can “fix” Iraq with the same ease that we would repair the transmission on a 59 Chevy, because the world is our transmission and we can pick any gear ratio we want.  The only thinng we need is a suicidal will to win.

All ideology is myth.  This is why those who go down in flames while trying to pursue it become romantic heroes.  To self-destruct in the pursuit of the unattainable is the stuff of legend.  What is tragedy, other than the gods destroying a man whom, in his hubris, thought he could defy fate?

Your admirer,

Belacqua Jones
