Dear George,

The whinny-whiners are at it again.  This time their tears are flowing over a beneficial strain of genetically modified corn.  The Monsanto Company came up with a mutant corn they call MON863.  Those clever people were able to splice a gene from the bacteria Bacillus thuringiensis that enables the plant to produce its own insecticide.

Wouldn’t you know it, no sooner was this corn on the market when some goody-two-shoes scientists began testing it on rats.  It seems that the rodents developed some liver and kidney toxicity along with some hormonal changes.  So, who gives a fat fuck about a dead rat with latent homosexual tendencies.[1]

Too many people forget one of life’s basic precepts:  progress draws blood.  Hell, every technology has to take a shit from time to time.  This is why we must keep our eyes on its upside.  This strain of corn will be a vital engine of natural selection by weeding out individuals with weak kidney or livers.  An added benefit is that insecticide-producing plants have decimated America’s honeybee population.  The country is now freed from the scourge of bee stings that have caused countless deaths and have left our children screaming in agony.

Once again, we see that there can be no growth without mutation.

Your admirer,

Belacqua Jones
