Dear George,
Your power derives from your ability to keep America’s Panic Pot roiled. To do this, you need a pot, a stick, and wanna-be terrorists who are as brain-dead as they are incompetent. Fate has been good to you. There was the British bunch that wanted to smuggle liquid explosives aboard international flights in shampoo bottles the moment such a liquid was invented. Then there was the Liberty City Seven who planned to blow up Chicago’s Sears Tower as soon as they figured out where Chicago was and could raise the bus fare to get there.
To this honor roll, we must now add the names of Abdul Kadir and Russell M. DeFreitas. Their master plot was to blow up a jet-fuel storage tank at New York’s Kennedy Airport. They had visions of the airport’s total destruction as the explosion traveled through the underground grid of pipes that connects all the tanks. The fact that some busybody engineers and experts have said this could never happen is beside the point.
The one thing that all of these terror-media events have in common is that they posed no threat. They simply provided a platform upon which our leaders could strut and bray their manifold warning about the terrorists lurking behind every shampoo bottle. You must constantly remind the public that they have nothing to fear but the absence of fear. Let the public continue to believe that the terrorists want to destroy our freedoms, which is why national security requires us to destroy them first.
Your admirer,
Belacqua Jones
