Dear George,

Great minds are always misunderstood, and yours is no exception.  The great mind is firmly planted in a make believe future, and its movements and dynamics leave lesser minds dazed and confused.  The public and your critics (who are increasingly one in the same) think you mad as you catapult America from one military disaster to another.   They believe this because they fail to understand the width and breadth of your vision.

Your military misadventures are not about oil, or spreading democracy, or protecting Israel, or WMDs, or your bogus War on Terror.  They are about saving the American economy from more ruin than it is already experiencing.

America’s prosperity is totally dependent upon the presence of a viable enemy against whom we must defend ourselves behind an engorged military-industrial complex.

There was a moment of panic when the Soviet Union fell and we faced the prospect of a peaceful world with no enemy to gird our loins against.  Humanitarian interventions like Yugoslavia and Kosovo simply didn’t generate enough revenue. We needed something bigger, more enduring.

Then came 9/11 and you saw a ready replacement in Islam.  With 9/11 came the answer to the military-industrial's dream:  A truly Eternal War of an Empty Policy.  What started as the Global War on Terror gradually morphed into a war against a monolithic Islamofascism bent on the establishment of a worldwide Caliphate. As an enemy, Muslims are better than the Soviets.  With them, you are able to combine racism and religious bigotry, both of which are guaranteed to get the Whiteman’s martial blood to boiling.

Today, the linchpin of your foreign policy is a race to see how many Arabs you can piss off before you leave office.  It’s essential that they hate us.  The more they hate us, the more weapon systems we have to stockpile.

The crisis in Pakistan has given you a golden opportunity to ratchet up this hatred by backing Musharraf as he cracks down on the courts and democracy. Nothing sets the Arab Street to dancing with rage like backing a dictator who locks up members of the opposition (Are you taking notes, George?).

The truth is that your Neocons are wimps.  They believe that if we control the world’s oil we can control the world.  Such an outcome would be a disaster for our economy.  There is no profit in victory.  The only way we can hope to prop us our sagging economy is to continue to fight over oil, or any other goddamn thing we can think of, or nothing at all. Casua belli are so yesterday.

Your admirer,

Belacqua Jones
