Christmas Day
Working in the garden...
I was gardening this afternoon - I bought my wife Trish a peach tree for Christmas so she can pick and savour her own fruit later this summer - I saw groups of snowdrops poking their heads through the decomposing leaves usually left on the soil over winter rather thn digging them in. We've had snowdrops in flower here in central France on Christmas Day before, though not this year... and I was reminded of our wild garden in west Wales where we sometimes had snowdrops in their hundreds at Christmas followed later in the spring by daffodils in their thousands.
I'm not too enthralled by snow any more (it's great for children... not so cool for grandfathers) so still want to share another peaceful image with you as my Christmas card number two. I like it better... there's the warmth of the late afternoon sun shining through a stand of bare beech trees... and the freshness and purity of the white snowdrop flower heads. I guess most will be enjoying other things to do today but for those who do click on for a quiet moment or two I hope you enjoy this scene.
