THE DEMOCRATS HAVE CHOSEN BARACK OBAMA AS THEIR CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES
IN SPITE OF HIS DETRACTORS INCLUDING HILLARY, FOX NEWS, RUSH LIMBAUGH, ETC. ETC. HIS ELECTION WILL BE ONE OF THE HIGH MOMENTS OF OUR NATION’S HISTORY. WHAT A MESSAGE OUR COUNTRY WILL SEND TO THE WORLD!
Rush Limbaugh learned a lesson that we all hope he will long remember—“Don’t mess around with a country that has had enough of corruption, deficits, unresponsive government and war.” The procedures for selecting a candidate for president are determined by the political parties in a free, democratic country. When an alien group outside of a given party introduces itself into the process of its opposition party that is a dangerous game that often does reprehensible damage to the democratic process and to the party the alien group is attempting to injure.
Rush calls his campaign to get Clinton nominated “Operation Chaos.” Several other far right groups over the past few weeks have joined in the crusade. Their plan is to convince millions of their older followers which comprises the heart of Rush’s audience to register for the Democratic Party Primary and to vote for Hillary Clinton. The main purpose is to assist in seizing the Democratic nomination surreptitiously for Clinton whom they feel strongly they can defeat in the November election and away from Obama who poses a much greater threat to a potential McCain/Republican victory.
These same devious souls who are strictly aligned with the Republican Party initiated the entire Rev. Jeremiah Wright mess which was a ridiculous and irrelevant occurrence that had no place in a presidential race. At no other time in history has an opposition party made a candidate’s pastor and his sermons an issue in a campaign for president.
William Ayers whose name came up at the Philadelphia debate on ABC and was hosted by George Stephanopoulos and Charles Gibson, appeared for the first time in this campaign season. Apparently, Stephanopoulos picked up on the Ayers matter from Fox News Sources which in and of itself is an insult to the intelligence of the serious viewers of the presidential discussions. George asked Obama if he knew William C. Ayers, the son of the former Chairman and CEO of Commonwealth Edison. Obama answered that they lived in approximately the same neighborhood, but were not friends although they served on the Board of Directors of the Woods Fund of Chicago which is an anti-poverty and philanthropic foundation.
Why did the name Bill Ayers come up in the first place? In the late sixties and early seventies, a group of radical anti-war groups were using various forms of violence to call attention to their fervent opposition to the war in Viet Nam. They were accused to exploding bombs on college campus’ and attacking ROTC and other college military installations as a way to express their vehement opposition to the war in Viet Nam. They called themselves the Minutemen; Ayers, the heir of Thomas G. Ayers, Chairman and CEO of Commonwealth Edison was a member of this deviant group of protestors. That was 1970; today, 2008, Ayers is a different man. But the far right will not allow him to forget his rebellious past.
Wikipedia describes his current life in this fashion—“Ayers is currently a Distinguished Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Education. His interests include teaching for social justice, urban educational reform, narrative and interpretive research, children in trouble with the law, and related issues.[10]
He began his career in primary education while an undergraduate, teaching at the Children’s Community School (CCS).[11] After leaving the underground, he earned an M.Ed from Bank Street College in Early Childhood Education (1984), an M.Ed from Teachers College, Columbia University in Early Childhood Education (1987) and an Ed.D from Columbia University in Curriculum and Instruction (1987).[10]”
He has edited and written many books and articles on education theory, policy and practice, and has appeared on many panels and symposia.
Ayers became involved in the politics of the anti-war movement while a student at the University of Michigan. He became a member of the New Left and the Students for a Democratic Society in the late sixties. He later joined the Weathermen after the schism within the SDS forced a separation of two different perspectives. In the mid-seventies Ayers, his wife, Bernadine Dohm and their two children were purged from the group and although he was indicted for his association with the Weathermen, in 1981, Ayers and his wife turned themselves in to the authorities, but had all charges dropped against them due to “prosecutorial misconduct.”
About this time he became involved in the field of education and went on to obtain his M.Ed and Ed. D from Columbia. Today he is a renowned teacher and expert in the field of education.
Recent controvery that seems to stick to him like a fly to flypaper, resulted from some comments during an interview with a reporter from the New York Times who quoted him as saying “I do not regret setting the bombs,” “I don’t think we did enough,” and when asked if he would do it all again, he allegedly replied, “I do not want to discount the possibility.”
Ayers insists the reporter twisted his words. When he said he had no regrets and that they did not do enough, he was referring to his work in opposition to the war, not the ineffective bombs the Minute Men were exploding in safe quarters with military affiliations. The war went on for years he argues and his group and others should have devoted more of their time and efforts to getting our soldiers out of that truly unwinable war.
Why this is relevant today, I am not sure. Many of us were opposed to the war in Viet Nam. Few of us made small bombs to draw attention to our anti-war posture. But looking at Bill Ayers’ life since the mid-seventies, he has been the epitome of virtue. Charges were dropped against him and there are millions of us who believe we should have worked harder to stop the massacre in Viet Nam. It, like Iraq, is a war in which we never should have become involved. And one of the greatest general’s in history, Douglas MacArthur, warned us to never go into a war with an enemy you cannot tell from a friend and where a jungle gives the enemy too many places to hide and kill American soldiers.
Another issue that the far right has turned into a gargantuan issue comes from, comments that Obama, made in a private fund raising party in San Francisco implying that those who have been unemployed for a decade or more, have become bitter when candidate-for-president after candidate-for-president has promised jobs, but inevitably failed to deliver.
Obama suggested that after years of empty assurances from the presidential candidates of both parties that they would create new jobs that paid a living wage, provide a way to pay the mortgage, to pay for the food on their family’s table, clothes for their family’s backs, and shelter over their heads, they have turned to guns and faith and family to hold on to their sense of self-worth in this time of unfulfilled expectations.
To include guns in this list of fall backs was a mistake on Obama’s part if, indeed, he included them because guns do not command the same power over us as faith and family.
Attending that fund raiser in a private home in California was a reporter for the blog Huffington Post whose publisher, Arianna Huffington, who was married to an allegedly gay West Coast multi-millionaire, apparently is a Clinton supporter. Gathering up the tidbits of information her reporter provided her; Arianna published it in her blog and shot it off to Clinton’s people who, in turn, twisted it into a headline story. Can you believe all of the B… S…?
Huffington, her reporter, Hillary, Fox News, MSNBC, CNN and a thousand other media outlets manufactured a story and the damage they have caused to a man running for president who wanted nothing more than to give voice to the unexpressed feelings of men and women who have been left behind these past eight years, is an enigma.
Even workers in these depressed areas of Ohio and Pennsylvania, of which Obama was referring, agreed they were bitter, but Hillary and the media turned this factual statement into an affront to blue-collar men and women, their life-style and their faith. Nothing could have been further from the truth. Who spun it and how they twisted it to make it into a gargantuan lie, I do not know and I do not think it matters. It was not the statement of an elitist—he is not. Obama will be the Democratic nominee in spite of this media garbage.
Obama is a young man whose mother was on food stamps and collected unemployment checks because she too ran into a period of unfulfilled promise. He knows what poverty is like, because he lived it. And Hillary, the girl from Park Ridge, Wellesley and Yale dubbed him an elitist. What a joke? No sooner had Hillary picked up on the label, Fox News and the other cable news networks echoed it like a Swiss yodeler in the Alps.
These trivial matters, unrelated in anyway with the pressing issues confronting our nation, were malicious distractions from the problems that face every American in every household in this country making under $100,000. per year.
Unfortunately, abhorrent news channels such as Fox and to a lesser, but equally damaging degree, MSNBC and CNN in fact all of the media who print with the purpose of doing harm to one candidate or the other, distracted the voters away from those things that truly matter and on to inconsequential issues that in no way bring down gas prices, bring the soldiers home from Iraq, cause the cost of a loaf of bread to drop, make health insurance more affordable, feed the poor, or shelter the homeless.
In fact, it falls upon the shoulders of the next president to bring the nation together again; a nation which has been torn apart by the few who are rich and have stolen the vast majority of our national financial wealth for themselves while putting the nation in debt so deeply that it will take decades to rescue our fiscal health.
Limbaugh, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright and even Hillary Clinton have been parties to a crusade to injure Barack Obama so severely that he will lose the Democratic nomination and if not the nomination, certainly, the presidency in the general election in the fall.
Limbaugh is in reality committing a form of treachery by attempting to control the people’s political business and to manipulate the minds of people predisposed to his way of thinking. He believes McCain, who in reality is not his favorite conservative, will have less trouble defeating Clinton than he would have defeating Obama. Thus, OPERATION CHAOS was launched and he has called upon his 20 million listeners to switch their registration from Republican to Democratic just for this election cycle so that Hillary will get the Democratic nod.
Hear these results: in Cuyahoga County in northern Ohio around Cleveland, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported that 16,000 Republicans switched parties to vote in the March 4, 2008 Democratic Primary. That is only a small patch of the state that Obama lost by 230,000 votes.
Between March 10 and March 17, more than 14,000 new Democrats were registered to vote in the Pennsylvania primary and 29,000 voters switched their registration to the Democratic Party as reported in The Philadelphia Enquirer
In Indiana’s recent primary, Clinton won by a mere 15,000 after all of the votes were finally counted at 1:30 in early morning. If Rush Limbaugh persuaded those 15,000 voters to register in the Democratic primary where “switching” is legal, he could have manipulated the entire election cycle. Without those votes, it is believed by many that Hillary would have dropped out of the race and Obama would be the Democratic nominee.
I am not a lawyer, but this fiddling with the minds of the voters for the sole purpose of creating chaos in the opposition party may have legal ramifications yet to be unearthed.
In spite of Limbaugh, Hillary, Wright, Human Events Magazine, the Swift Boat Veterans, Karl Rove, Sean Hannerty, Bill O’Reilly, Ann Coulter, Laura Ingraham, and the other snakes slithering across the ground patiently waiting for the right moment to strike with their poisonous venom against anyone or anything liberal, progressive, Democratic or any other life form that has emerged from the darkness of the conservative state of mind into the light of the liberal and progressive view of the world, Obama is winning the war for the minds of conscientious Americans.
