OBAMA MAKES A BRILLIANT CHOICE WITH THE SELECTION OF SENATOR JOSEPH BIDEN FOR VICE-PRESIDENT
Rita and I (and millions of other supporters) received an e-mail at 4:18 am this morning from Barack Obama announcing his choice for the Vice Presidency--Senator Joseph Biden.
We both were ecstatic since he has been the candidate we have supported for Barack's running mate. He is precisely the right man for the job, in fact, as one of the Senator's interviewed today on CNN put it, he is a "gold medal" selection.
Thirty-five years ago when we lived in Ohio, we received a call from my roommate in Seminary and his wife. They had re-located to Delaware and they were all excited about a twenty-nine year old lawyer who was running for the U. S. Senate and for whose campaign they were working. His name was Joe Biden. And our friends assured us that we would be hearing alot more about this man in the future. Guess what? They were right.
Biden was elected to the Senate but shortly thereafter, his wife was killed in an automobile accident leaving their very young children without their mother. The thing that impressed me most about this man was his commitment to his family even though he was a U. S. Senator. Every day he took a train from Delaware to the nation's capital, worked a full day and took a train back to Delaware that evening to be with his children. To this day he continues the practice.
Biden is Chairman and long standing member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, a former Chairman and member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and expert in the field of terrorism, women's rights, crime and the issues surrounding drugs.
He is respected world-wide for his expertise in foreign affairs and adds a perfect addition to Barack's brilliance, exceptional judgment and his superb ability to communicate.
This team, in this time of crisis, will put this nation back on the right road again, redeem our name in the world-at-large and give us as a people a renewed sense of pride.
Obama made a brilliant decision on his running mate and I join with the millions of Obama backers in welcoming Joe Biden to the team.
I have some important news that I want to make official.
I've chosen Joe Biden to be my running mate.
Joe and I will appear for the first time as running mates this afternoon in Springfield, Illinois -- the same place this campaign began more than 19 months ago.
I'm excited about hitting the campaign trail with Joe, but the two of us can't do this alone. We need your help to keep building this movement for change.
Please let Joe know that you're glad he's part of our team. Share your personal welcome note and we'll make sure he gets it:
