MCCAIN AND PALIN NEED TO BRUSH UP ON THE DEFINITION OF SOCIALISM AND ETHICS

ARE THEY DIM-WITTED OR JUST PREFABRICATORS

“Socialism is a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution of capital, land, etc. in the community as a whole.”   Webster’s New Universal Unabridged Dictionary

Socialism is a widely misunderstood social system that because most Americans do not know what the word means nor understand its implications, they are fearful and vulnerable to the lies such as the one McCain and Palin are selling out the trunk of their jalopy.

There is nothing about the economic proposals of Barack Obama that even faintly resembles socialism.

He is proposing tax relief for the middle class. Mr. McCain knows very well having served in the Senate for decades (obviously way too long) that tax cuts, while certainly a slight redistribution of the wealth (if you insist on calling tax cuts a re-distribution of wealth)  is definitely not welfare and by no means socialism.

If the Bush/McCain tax plans are anything, they are socialism for the very rich and for corporations. When Bush proposed and McCain supported the tax plan presently in force, the massive tax breaks went to the top 1% of the population of our country, especially big oil, big pharmaceuticals, big defense companies, and those who run them to the detriment of the rest of American

Indeed, every member of the middle class is making nearly $2,000 less today than they were in 2001--the day that Bush took office. In contrast, the very wealthy (until the recent economic crash) were awash in much more money than they have been in decades. Simply stated, the Bush/McCain tax cuts for the richest of the rich, while putting the vast majority of the people in the hole, made those at the top of economic ladder many times wealthier than they were in January, 2001. And McCain voted “yes” 90% of the time on the Bush’s “socialism for rich” policy.

Those of you who have the nerve to believe that Obama’s tax plan will raise taxes on middle class families, small businesses, or anyone earning less than $250,000 a year, either cannot read, cannot hear or cannot think for themselves. McCain, Palin and their honchos like Joe Lieberman, Lindsey Graham, and innumerable Republican candidates for the House and the Senate are simply lying. I am sorry, but there is no other word for it.

A tax cut is not a redistribution of the wealth. I tax cut for those who earn less than $250,000

Even more repulsive, these same people are saying that Obama’s tax cuts, in reality, are socialistic. Were the Bush tax cut for the top 1% of our nation’s wealthiest, socialism for the well-to-do? Those who are uneducated will not know what the factual definition of Socialism is, will believe the lie and will not even take the time to go to the dictionary and research the word. Those who are assiduously concerned for their own welfare and vote for their own best interests, will do their homework.

As I review in my own mind the various charges that McCain has leveled against Obama, I am shocked by depth of his moral deficiency. For a man who promised to wage the most ethical and cleanest political campaign in history, McCain has shed his breast plate of righteousness, heroism, and nonconforming maverick and put on the defensive armor of meanness, deception and deceitfulness.

Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann of Minnesota had the impudence to appear on Hardball with Chris Matthews accusing Barack Obama of being un-American and suggesting that all liberal Democrats in the Congress should be investigated for their patriotism. Most of us believed that the period of Senator Joseph McCarthy of Wisconsin’s era of witch-hunting ended with his death at the St. Elizabeth’s Mental Health Center where he died of alcoholism and schizophrenia. Congresswoman Bachman is suffering from some undiagnosed disease, but one thing is certain she has committed political suicide. These are precisely the kind of fallacious tactics used by people that seem to be attracted to the right-wing of the Republican Party.

The McCain campaign or his supporters at Fox News dug up the tapes of sermons of the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, Obama’s former pastor and selected a few seconds from his thirty years of sermons to brand him and Obama who was simply a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and because of his political career attended church infrequently, as radicals and un-American.

By the way, Trinity is the same church the Oprah Winfrey attended regularly for her first few years in Chicago and off and on for the next six or seven years.

What Fox and much of the ultra-conservative arm of the Republican Party attempted to do was tie Obama to the sometime outlandish comments the Reverend Wright made in his sermons. As a graduate of a United Methodist Seminary, I know for a fact that members of a church cannot be held accountable or associated with the words or ideas a preacher employs in his sermons. This accusation by the Fox News Network, later picked up by McCain and Palin and a host of their right wing co-conspirators, is one of the most mindless criticisms that can be made against Obama.

And if we are going to bring religion into this campaign, we need to question Sarah Palin about the witchcraft that is practiced in her church in Wasilla, Alaska and the exorcism in which she participated when elected Governor of her state. While some of Reverend Wright’s ideas emerged out of his belief in liberation theology which dominated many of the seminaries in the 1960-70’s and 80’s, no Christian has ever believed in witchcraft since the 17th century when supposed witches were burned to death at the stake in Salem, Massachusetts. Palin has some explaining to do.

And then, of course, there is Bill Ayers, son of the former president  CEO of Commonwealth Edison who was a member of the Weathermen forty years ago, rebelling against the Viet Nam War. While he resorted to violence which all of us denounce, he has turned his life around over the past forty years and has become a renowned professor of Education at the University of Illinois in Chicago, In fact, he was chosen as Chicago’s Man of the Year in 1997.

The only association between Obama and Ayers is that both served on the boards of directors of a few Chicago charities. They were never good friends; Obama did not begin his political career in Ayers’ home as Fox News, particularly those scumbags, Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, Fred Barnes, Bill Kristol as in “Oh, Bill Kristol, are you ever right?” Charles Krauthammer, Bill Bennett, et. al. have alleged.

It is important to realize that sitting on the same board of directors of the Annenberg Challenge were Stanley O. Ikenberry, president of the University of Illinois, Raymond Romero, president of Ameritech, Susan Crown, of the Arie and Ida Crown Foundation, Scott Smith, president and CEO of the Chicago Tribune. Dolores Cross, president, Chicago State University, John W. McCarter, Jr. president and CEO of the Field Museum, Arnie Weber, president of Northwestern University and many other civic leaders representing a cross section of the Windy City.

Are these persons to be accused of “palling around with domestic terrorists.”  I do not think so and that the McCain ticket has never once offered an apology for such flagrant lies, violation of ethics and about as unchristian as one can get with committing murder, tells me all I want to know about McCain, Palin and the Republicans who are running the McCain campaign and even those who are supporting this mean, deceitful and lying man who heroism cannot make up for the manner in which he has run this campaign for president.
