OBAMA’S EXECUTIVE ORDER TO ALLOW FEDERAL FUNDS TO BE EMPLOYED IN STEM CELL RESEARCH—AT LONG LAST!

THE BUSH ORDER DENYING STEM CELL RESEARCH HAS COST THOUSANDS OF CRITICALLY ILL AMERICANS A POTENTIAL CURE!

It is past time that the religious right including the Catholic Church and the Evangelicals, the Fundamentalists and the Pentecostals, the right wing Republicans, and the far right of all denominations and political persuasions recognize the reality of the separation of church and state.

No religious faction should be determining the agenda of this nation in personal matters of faith or the political implications thereof.

Ever since the minority right wing of the Republican Party obtained a power position in our country, it has been determined to force the majority of our people to abide by their theology, the religious teachings, and to incorporate that theology and those teachings into the law of the land.

Anyone who knows anything about our constitution knows that the first amendment of our constitution which is a component of the U. S. Bill of Rights “expressly prohibits the U. S. Constitution from making laws ‘respecting an establishment of religion,’ or that prohibits the ‘free exercise of religion’…”

In spite of this undeniable edict, the Republicans have attempted to write their religious beliefs into the law of the land in areas such as abortion, stem cell research, gay civil unions, birth control, morning after pill, masturbation, and the imperative U. S. funding of birth control information and devices for those countries whose population growth is literally driving them further and further down the endless hole of poverty. The children they produce, the more they have to feed, the more they are contributing to homelessness, starvation and death.

Any religion that contributes to the world explosion of poverty, hunger, disease and death is no religion at all; it is nothing more than the fallacious beliefs of an uncivilized group.

I have very strong feels about the posture the Catholic Church assumes on these issues. A religious organization that truly wishes to serves God and to follow Jesus would sell off the $100 billion dollars many estimates it is worth and give it to the poor as Jesus required of the rich young ruler who sought to follow Jesus and be part of the Kingdom of God. In Greek, the Kingdom of God is in reality the “Rule of Love [agape]”—a self-giving love that expects nothing in return. Rome and the Holy Sea are so far removed from following the Rule of Love it has become its own religion separate and apart from the true Christian Faith. Catholicism is not the religion of Jesus; if anything it is more like the religion of St. Paul and probably should be honest with the remainder of the world and call itself “Paulianity.”

The same by the way is true for the Evangelicals, Fundamentalists and the Pentecostals. They do not practice the law of agape that Jesus believed was the only true law of God.

Thus, I return to the issue of stem cell research.

I have had a personal stake in this issue because for many years my mother suffered from Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and congestive heart failure. These diseases over time turned a beautiful, vital, assertive woman into a vegetable. When she died she was but an apparition of her former self.

When President George Bush took it upon himself to impose his beliefs onto the whole nation and forced the federal government to cease and desist from research with stem cells that many outstanding scientists believe could yield cures for the diseases from which my dear mother died.

These religious fanatics are the most selfish, self-centered and immoral people I know. Because they are certain they are correct, they insist on pushing their beliefs down the throats of all people and make them swallow their myths as part of a national policy.

As Robert M. Pirsig has written-- “When people are fanatically dedicated to political or religious faiths or any other kind of dogmas or goals, it’s always because these dogmas or goals are in doubt.”

Bush became the enemy of my mother’s potential recovery and for that it is very difficult for me to forgive Bush or his political party. His action were based upon the fallacious premise that to use stem cells that were to be thrown in the garbage heap was killing human life.  First of all, that stem are human life is a delusion full of the cheap thinking of the anachronistic Christian Churches in all of the many branches.

“Delusions,” wrote an unknown author, “injures others, brings hardship to oneself, soils the mind and may well lead to hell.”

Today, with the vast majority of the American people believing in what he did, Obama struck Bush’s executive order denying the vast majority of the people who did support and still do support the use of stem cell research off of the books and gave his consent to use these vital tools to cure some of the most dreaded diseases in our nation.

Thank you, Mr. President for righting this cruel wrong left behind by George W. Bush and the religious extremists he represented.
