ANWR Drilling Defeated for the Year
The environment's adorable Tiny Tim issue survives another Christmas; the ANWR will remain intact through another year. "I'm going to go to every one of your states, and I'm going to tell them what you've done," said Republican Sen. Ted Stevens, the 82-year old evil mastermind most focused on trying to destroy the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve. "This was wrong." Since destroying ANWR for a meager amount of oil is anything but wrong, if Senator Stevens had the stamina to spend that kind of time outside of Washington, DC, his home, which he very rarely leaves, all that would happen is the throwing of parades for a great many Senators.
There are at least two Minnesota Republicans who are sworn to save ANWR, Rep. Mark Kennedy and Sen. Norm Coleman, who betrayed their words and their constituents by voting for the ANWR drilling under cover of a defense bill. It is in the nature of these guys to betray their words; particularly Sen. Norm Coleman, who comes off as anguished every time he is expected to keep a campaign promise. On the one hand, he promised; on the other hand betraying the state of Minnesota would please a billionaire. What's a boy to do?
