Massachusetts Governor Looks Unlikely to be New York Governor

Former Massachusetts Gov. William Weld can't catch a break in New York, the state he's lived in for several years.  In the latest bad news for Weld's campaign for governor of New York, former Republican Senator Alphonse D'Amato is full of praise for Weld's Democratic opponent, state Attorney General Elliot Spitzer, saying he has done an excellent job.  D'Amato also questions the appropriateness of Weld regarding the governorship of New York as an entry-level job in New York politics.

D'Amato also describes what happened to Dekker College (which as CEO of Dekker College, Weld ran into the ground) as "multimillion dollar looting".  Not many people have destroyed an entire college.  It is a credential of sorts, I guess.  Politicians always campaign in favor of education; Weld could actually run against education.  Massachusetts Governor Weld's only defense of his mismanagement of Dekker College is to say that prosecutors say he isn't a subject of their criminal investigation...which doesn't exactly sound like a ringing defense of his behavior.  It isn't even a claim of innocence.  William Weld is a former prosecutor.  Few know like a prosecutor the vast distinction between innocent and not guilty.

Corruption

Rep. Robert Ney is likely to be the first charged as a result of evidence and testimony provided by Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff.  Prosecutors suggest as many as 12 Congressmen may face charges as a result of their involvement with Abramoff.  Surprise:  Rep. Tom DeLay is among that murderer's row of crooked Congressmen.
