Blessed are the Peacemakers
I'm very concerned about Ariel Sharon's condition. It's not because I am fond of the man. He was a vicious, bloody-handed general who looked the other way while his allies killed refugees in Lebanon back in 1982. Few terrorists have been responsible for more innocents' deaths. But, because demographics made it clear that a two state solution is the only way for Israel to continue to exist as a democracy, Ariel Sharon was ready to try to cut the Gordian knot binding Israelis and Palestinians together. Finally, Sharon had become a peacemaker.
I'm not sure any other peacemaker has a chance of being elected Prime Minister of Israel. Olmert is a nonentity. And are former Likud members going to vote for former Labor leader Shimon Peres? Not likely.
