Metric-Poster of a Girl This song is about a girl who doesn't feel complete, who feels lifeless and unenergized, who picks up a guy "to find out how [she] feel[s]." For a song about joyless sex, this song is a surprising amount of fun. My favorite part of the song is where backup vocalists speak unintelligibly in, I think, French.

What Are They Thinking???
Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, a former mob lawyer, once again flirted with running for the US Senate this year, in his latest weekly press conference. He was in Washington, DC last week, and he said that Senators Barack Obama, Edward Kennedy, and Charles Schumer all sought him out...one presumes to encourage him to run. If so, they should be ashamed of themselves. At a time when Democrats are trying to regain their political balance by running against the current corrupt status quo in our nation's capital, the answer is not to seek out a guy who used to represent organized crime...and tell him that now he ought to represent the state of Nevada. You might say that sets a bad example.
I acknowledge there is nothing necessarily legally unethical in a lawyer giving anyone a vigorous defense...but come on, really. Las Vegas voters elected him either despite--or because of--his past, and that is certainly their right. And as far as I can tell, he has performed admirably as the mayor of America's Gomorrah. He's also undeniably popular; he's the only Democrat who would almost certainly defeat the Republican incumbent. But there are plenty of people who become ethically challenged once in Washington. Democrats don't need to seek out a candidate whose ethical challenges are of such long standing.
