Quote for the Day, 2/10/2006

"For me, sex is a sport, like racquetball.  Play hard for half an hour, work up a sweat, and hope you don't get hit in the eye."

-John C. McGinley (Dr. Cox), Scrubs, "My Nightingale"

I'm actually not as cynical as the Dr. Cox character on Scrubs, but I'd like to be.

Low-Nowhere Man  While this spare cover of the Beatles' classic tune does drag a bit, it actually doesn't drag as much as you might expect from these slow-core greats.

The second time I saw these guys was when they were just becoming big; they were playing in the 7th Street Entry.  The room was completely full.  It was so hot the walls were sweating.  And I made my way to the front of the stage.  I was maybe five feet away from everyone in the band but the drummer, and there was so much talking in the audience, there were moments I couldn't hear the band at all; not a warbled word, not an instrument, nothing.  I could see they were playing, but that was all.

That has nothing to do with this song, but I'm still annoyed about that show.

This Week in New York Politics

After months of flirting with running for governor, Tom Golisano officially bowed out of the race this week...and New York's Conservative party responded by suggesting they will run their own candidate rather than tolerate endorsing a liberal Massachusetts Republican as the Conservative standard bearer.  Also this week, Donald Trump, normally no friend to Democrats, endorsed the presumptive Democratic nominee, AG Eliot Spitzer (who has thrown more of Trump's cocktail party pals in prison that the last several state Attorneys General put together), and announced he'd be holding a big fundraiser for him soon.  Is it just me, or doesn't this all have the feel of a soap opera?
