Typical Day for VP

Vice President Dick Cheney shot another hunter this weekend.  The political affiliation of the other hunter has not yet been disclosed.  People who think that the Vice President's behavior seemed extreme are being called soft on terrorism.

Download This!

I skipped a couple days last week, so I'll list more songs today.  These songs don't have anything in common that I can think of...other than that I've been listening to them.

Group Sounds-Uncontrollable Urge  This is a garagey version of Devo's "Uncontrollable Urge".  But I generally much prefer covers which sound nothing like the original (if you want to hear the something that sounds like the original song, couldn't you listen to...well...the original?), and this sure qualifies:  It sounds nothing like the original.

Action Action-Drug Like  This is just another band that's going for the New Wave sound...and why not?  I love that sound!  Punk remade a rock world that had gotten stale and overproduced...and New Wave remade a rock world that had gotten underproduced and where you didn't need to know how to play your instrument.  The band leader sings, "And I think I'm starting to scare myself", and he has every reason to be scared.  The song is scary good.

The Softies-Selfish  This is just a really soft mellow song.  It's about a girl in love with a guy who can't express himself, and who can live with that.  It's almost absurdly pretty.  It's what I think of as Sunday morning music; a type of music which begins and ends, of course, with the Velvet Underground's "Sunday Morning".

Chixdiggit-I Remember You Sample lyric:  "We had lots of fun while you grimaced from the sides We got good at love and you got good at rolling your eyes."  This is just good pop punk.

Belated Quote for the Day, 2/11/2006

"Politics, as a practice, whatever its professions, has always been the systematic organization of hatreds."

-Henry Adams, The Education of Henry Adams

This memoir, despite its flaws (he left out his twenty year marriage, and his wife's ultimate suicide) is one of the great and illuminating books I've read.  This descendant of John Adams and John Quincy Adams has always struck me as a better man...no doubt because he stayed out of politics.
