GOP Convention in Sky-Blue State   The Republicans have chosen to hold their national convention in 2008 in St. Paul, Minnesota.  While I'm happy Minnesota will get the money from convention-goers, I'm kind of at a loss why they're holding it here.  (I also kind of wonder how much GOP delegates will really spend.  Given Republicans are so cheap they would rather mortgage their children's futures and dispense with roads and schools and public safety in order to get a tax cut, you've got to think these might be the sort of people who'll come to Minnesota, but bring their own sandwich.)  Even if Republicans do go out, they're not going to have much fun.  Minneapolis is a fun town, but St. Paul mostly goes to sleep early.  And when was the last time a Republican Presidential candidate won Minnesota?  Well, I read the Republicans held a convention in Minnesota back in 1892.  It was probably somewhere around then. 8:09:26 AM    comment []
