My life is like a river

It started as a trickle

And immediately began to gather and grow

It flows ever onward

Toward the inevitable dissolution

In the vast eternal ocean

Along the way it shrinks and grows

Suffering drought and flood

Sometimes it gets polluted

Sometimes it is transparent

At times it is serene

At other times it is a raging torrent

Always flowing, perhaps forward, but certainly never backward

And now two rivers are joined

And we flow together as one

Both toward that inevitable dissolution

Which we cannot yet see

But at which we know we must eventually arrive

So we meander

Enduring the winters

Enjoying the moments of sunshine

While we can

When I've thought about doing this blog thing, I often think of the old Melanie (Safka) song "Look what they've done to my song".  In particular, one line comes to mind:  "...wish I could find a good book to live in ... if I could find a real good book, I'd never have to come out and look at what they've done to my song..."

I want to find that book, but thus far it has eluded me.  I have this longing, and I cast about, hoping to satisfy it, but the best I have found only ever gives me temporary surcease.

I tell myself that if I cannot find that book to live in, perhaps it would help to try to write it myself.

And so it begins.
