linkomania pt. deux
I usually hate sequels, unless you're talking about the Empire Strikes Back -- I think that was the only truly ideal Star Wars film. Disagree with me all you like, but it was as close as George will ever get to sublime in that series. And I saw it 20 times, I should know!
I think that was probably one of the more odd beginnings I've ever written to an article having nothing to do with Star Wars. But I continue to digress...oops!
This is a sequel to my linking frenzy from last night. I'll dive right in -- with a reminder -- if Blogcabin sends you, you go with love!
I'm going to start with Alyssa, who has done the kind of jobs I always wanted to do, and writes at Gripes for the Grumpy Girl. She also does some exceptionally lovely pottery at this gorgeous site. And -- as if she needed to do anything else -- she has a great and useful book for sale at her site. I went to put the link to Amazon in, and it kept freaking out, so just look for it at her blog. She suffers from the same icky kind of insomnia that I do, but also suffers from the burden of being a fabulous writer in a city full of writers. But I still think she's better than all that riff raff.
Case writes at http://blogs.salon.com/0004024, and I must confess, though I think Case is brilliant and compassionate and lovely, his blog has given me a markedly stern expression more than once and compelled me to dialogue. Not because I love the Prez, but just because. Case is open to that, though, because he's brilliant, compassionate and lovely.
My good friend Tom, who I have co-worked with and bossed-over, writes a magnificent blog at http://tbingham.blogspot.com. He used to make me laugh like a woman possessed at my old job, and every single email I get from him leaves me in convulsions of hilarity. He would mock what I just said mercilessly, and that's why you need to go check out his very Canadian efforts.
Monty's blog is one of those that galvanizes the community around her and makes people giggle like fiends. Here's a girl that laughs in the face of stress and isn't afraid to grin, giggle, shock and awe her way into her readers' hearts. She is a kick-ass mom and full of fire and ferocity and funny.
Karen writes at The Hermit's Notebook, and puts a great deal of thoughtfulness and skill into her work. She is a great author, a deep considerer of things, and a wise soul. I go to her blog, and she makes me delve a little deeper into my own cranium. She also has a very dry sense of humour that I always appreciate.
Erin writes at The Diaper Dame, and makes me both laugh and cry at different intervals. She is the first time mom of a very, very cute baby that I have actually held. I used to work with Erin at my relatively new job, and can testify that she is a great writer and a very funny woman. She also grew up where I did...poor girl.
Lauralea is one of the dearest people to ever set roots down in Saskatchewan, which is where I was born, and where she still is. I love her blog because it reminds me of my own mom -- she has a wicked sense of humour combined with an extraordinary sense of compassion and grace. Could there be a better combo?
Hugh and I have had lives on the most opposite ends of the scale as one possibly could. Where I am ordinary, Hugh is glam. Where I am dull, Hugh is shocking and hilarious and fun. Where I am a goober, he is...well....Polly's dad. He's lived a life and a half.
Mark has two blogs, here and here. He claims to confound all hope of brevity, but I think he just notices lots of lovely things and wants to create equally lovely things. I figure that's an honourable pursuit, don't you? He also encourages my socks off about my own writing.
For one of the cutest children on the Web, visit Too Much Blue Sky . Oy, is that baby cute. You will also find commentary on all matter of other pertinent issues, from politics to music. He calls himself a rabble rouser, but any man who loves his little son that much is capable of rousing much more than rabble.
This is one of the funniest blog titles ever: Journeys of Jack Tripper. Tim from Tampa writes here about all sorts of things, including being a future hard-core Broadway showman and his various loves and foibles. He's figuring it all out, ladies and gents, and it's fun to read.
Okay, I'm sure I've forgotten someone. But the game ain't up.
I can always do more.
Some of these folks, from yesterday and today, I read, and they probably don't even know I exist. Some of them read me before I even discovered who they were. But I appreciate the honesty and transparency that they all display in their work.
I've been told that I should only link to people who have ideologies and lives that match up with my own. On that notion I have to say -- no way! There are lessons to be learned and delights to be gleaned from so many faces and experiences around me, and this blogosphere opens up the possibilities even further.
I am so blessed to be able to take in such a diverse body of knoweledge and experience. It's not something my grandmother -- or mother, even -- could have done.
We may be isolating ourselves in some respects in this technological age, but if you want to, you can dig deeper and reach further and love more than you could have without all these chips and wires.
