that whole thing.

You know the single girl thing? The me against the world thing? The career woman thing? The following my dream thing? The Mary Tyler Moore thing? I've been doing that gladly for a while, wondering when the heck I'd even find TIME for a relationship. I love my independence and I love my job and I love being in control of my own life. Granted, I've always appreciated the idea of romance and falling in love, too, but it just didn't seem practical to do anything but gawk and flirt and plan for a match someday, given the other demands of my existence. But.

Let me be the first to tell you:

I've completed the single phase. Bring on the love.

And the coffee. Love and coffee.

Yes.

Update, for Sam: Not looking. Just open -- and not open to just anything, either! I'm still too busy to do anything but smile and wink... and I wouldn't know where to begin, besides. But I'm much more a fan of kismet than conniving.

Update, for Dick: I've done nothing! No personals ads or billboards, no systems, no speed dating, no blind set-ups, no way. And I won't. I'm just in the mood for love, tis all!

girlday.

Well, I've realized that I won't manage to write anything of substance until I get home tomorrow afternoon. We arrived here yesterday to move Kristy into her new place and I've been on a bit of a social whirlwind ever since.

Last night brought dinner at a European pub nearby where they hold medieval feast dinners on the weekends. We were upstairs, away from the action, but we did spot people in crowns and flowing robes tugging at platters of roasted flesh and drinking grog. Every few minutes, a dramatic fanfare would resound, signaling the arrival of more meat.

Totally bizarre.

But our candlelit company was lovely and we chatted up a storm until we headed home to crawl into bed, a full day of moving and travelling behind us.

Whew.

Today brought brunch (fresh cinnamon rolls, orange juice, and heaps of coffee), followed by a girl trip to a Christmas craft and food fair. Now, before you roll your eyes, let me establish three things to be true:
  1. It is NOT too early to be doing Christmassy things
  2. I am not a crafty girl, although I enjoyed the artisan pottery and woodwork
  3. The food part? Mmmmm!
I tried: 20 kinds of hot sauce; pepper jellies of all colours; antipasti of all kinds; various dips and dressings mustards and marinades; crackers, wafers, breads and pretzels; fudges, caramels, candies and sweet teas; and a lovely little lunch of pasta and cotton candy with a glass of the region's best sparkling wine.

I know. Sounds pretty horrifying, mmm? But it was beyond delicious. It was especially fun to meet all the characters behind the handmade stuff and to send my palate spinning with the flavours and spices and levels of heat.

After that, we headed to a new village-y area and checked out some rather epic showhomes and grabbed a cup of coffee at a shop nearby.

Tonight brings lasagna and caesar salad and perhaps a game of poker with the boys? We shall see...

Tomorrow brings a return to normalcy and lots of work, but for now I'm just enjoying a relaxing day away from the demands of home. Also tomorrow, I leave one of my dearest friends behind, which will be... well, sad.

I guess all I can do for now is eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow I head home.
