and sales of spiral perms went through the roof.

Well, here's how the games shaped up:

Canucks vs. Flames : Canucks win.
Canucks vs. Oilers: Oilers win.
Seahawks vs. Steelers: Steelers win.

Whew.

One out of three ain't bad. Go Canucks! Go Seahawks!

Well, okay -- maybe it is, but I'm still a fan. Especially since I know how fickle people are when the season gets bumpy, and how much that kind of wishy-washy fandom bothers me.

If you're going to support a team, you should be in for the whole ride, no matter what. If I was the kind of girl who gave up on a franchise just because they were losing, between the Canucks, the Mariners, and the Seahawks, I sure wouldn't have much to watch.

Anyhow.

It's been a busy time in our little place -- lots of traffic in and out of the house, tons to do, places to go -- and now everyone's settling in for a bit of a rest before tomorrow hits us with work and responsibilities all 'round.

There are lots of things I didn't get done that I meant to, but I can catch up this week. It doesn't seem worthwhile to beat myself up about the details at this point.

The sun shone today -- finally, before we all went nuts -- after three days of fierce winds, and innumerable weeks of rain. The light on my face was amazing when I went outside -- a shock after eternal gray skies. I blinked like the proverbial mole and broke into a smile the second I walked out the door.

The sidewalk was dotted with puddles fighting to stick around for the next shower. Leaves that had been plastered to the cement were crackling into dust as they dried. Fallen branches left over from the storm blew ahead of me as I walked, rasping the curbs and rolling like tumbleweeds. It would almost have seemed bleak, if not for the blue-white-yellow glow of the sky overhead and the birds singing like captives set free.

Maybe they'd been singing all along, but I hadn't been able to hear it above the rattle of the downpour.

At the grocery store, it seemed like every old person in my neighbourhood was out to do their shopping, likely because the weather was holding off for a bit. Everyone in line ahead of me counted out their change slowly and methodically like they were picking gold from a pan.

The cashier -- bless her heart -- was helping them tell the difference between pennies and dimes and nickels when their eyesight wasn't doing them any favours. One elderly gentleman kept apologizing to the line because he was missing a quarter -- but he wouldn't take anyone else's, either.

He found it in his pocket, eventually.

No one seemed to mind the wait.

Maybe it was the sunshine.

The couch was a good place of refuge today. The salsa was tasty, the grapes were fresh and cold, and every other thing we ate was just about right.

Stevie and company sounded so great that I was already floating before the quarter was tossed.

Tom Brady looked as amazing as he always does. What is a Super Bowl without Tommy anymore?

The game had moments of delight and moments of disappointment. We called the guy with the long curly hair "Mariah", and that was pretty good for taking the edge off any rocky portions of play.

We laughed, we cried, we snoozed a little. We skipped the halftime show.

And another weekend comes to an end.

I know that it was a tough one for people I love. A wonderful family lost a mom and a wife. My parents lost a dear friend -- a real delight to them over the years.

Other friends of mine struggled with sickness, and still others with ongoing stressful issues in their lives.

I felt lucky to be caught up in sports and eating dumb things.

When all is said and done, my life is so full of blessings and provision that I really can't complain about much with any degree of accuracy or sincerity. The reminders of abundance are all around me, every single day.

I'm safe, loved, encouraged, challenged -- and rarely, if ever, alone. I have great people backing me up.

Team Meg may not win any big awards, but we're in the season for the long haul.

And hopefully, if we have any fans, they're sticking around, too.

well.

Congrats Steelers fans, and tons of love out to the Seahawks. Not going to hack on the officiating, the play by play... nothing. Even if I should. Because, really, it's all done, isn't it?

Just... good try, Seattle. And great job, Steelers! I'm always happy to see people happy.

Next year, boys -- for real!

with love.

Thank you all for your prayers for the family I mentioned earlier this week. Ruth's battle with cancer ended at 5:48 am this morning, at the dawn of a rare clear, cool day in these parts.

Please continue to keep Rowland, Emily, Marie, Jamie and Loni in your thoughts, as well as all her other friends and family.

She was my Sunday School teacher back in the day. Her kids were my first babysitting job at 12. She was a devoted friend and support to my parents, and one of the finest, most loving, most gentle people I've ever known.

So -- to Ruth, with love. The sun is shining much more brightly where you are.

Check out Sam's new place. Really. You'll probably just snuggle in and stay.
