a place for everything.

Today definitely started out lazy.

I woke up at 6, at 7, at 8, then not again until 10:45 am, when the sun was filtering through the cedars and making a soft pattern across the foot of my bed. The house was quiet -- Kerry had left maybe an hour before to seek out bridesmaids' dresses with Kristy, and Catherine was just getting up, too.

We're sleep-in people.

I brushed my teeth and put my wild hair back in a clip, then set about making coffee -- Allegro Organic...

...enough for both of us. While it brewed with pops and gurgles and a smell like every good, warm thing in the whole wide world, I tidied the blanket on the couch in the living room and wiped down the countertops.

I poured us a glass of Happy Planet Happiest Orange juice, which I swear was the best glass of orange juice, ever.

It usually is.

We sat in the living room to drink the coffee once it was done, bleary-eyed, well-slept, saying little and likely thinking little. We considered the options: breakfast with what we could find in the house; breakfast after grocery shopping; or breakfast out at a greasy spoon. The longer we sat, the more appealing the first option was...

Catherine started on cookin' while I continued to dust and pulled out the vacuum to give it a go. I'd stop every now and then to appreciate the sight of snow-dusted mountains through the window, peeking over the apartments that last for blocks beyond our own. And to sip coffee, of course,

Breakfast was pancakes (with chocolate chips!), pink grapefruit...

...more orange juice, and a fresh cup of coffee. We laughed, we chatted, we spoke in song lyrics instead of proper conversational phrases.

Then it was time to clean up. We're both bleach fans, so once the dishes were done, we were wiping down the countertops again and all the cupboard doors and walls and the sink. The floor was swept and scrubbed down, too. All the cloths and towels were changed over to clean, Bounce-scented ones, and the last thing left to do was to make another pot of coffee.

And now it's in my cup.

I even cleaned the iBook. Did you know that Mr. Clean Magic Erasers get rid of fingerprints safely from the surface of matte white Apple products?

It was a glorious discovery for me. I Windexed the outside, blew out the dust from under the keyboard, and that was that.

There's something to be said for balancing lazy moments and active moments on a bright Saturday morning. It seems to mirror the condition of my mind.

I'll feel restful for a moment, then ideas will tumble in, asking to be organized and dealt with. Once I put them in their place, I have peace for a moment. But not for long.

I'm full of wondering about the future, and trying to figure out what needs to be done and what wants to be done, and then there are the items of the day to attend to, from projects to blogging to making plans.. even to writing a little piece to set aside for myself.

There is always something to be accomplished, a place to be found for the things lying about.

And some days, when you put it all in order only to find that disorder has crept in behind you again, all you can do is pick up your cup of coffee, breathe in the fragrant steam, and close your eyes for a moment before getting on with every little thing.

I'm a lucky, lucky girl.

Happy Saturday, everyone.
