french fries, seedy parts of town, and comfy pants.

Today was another fairly peaceful Sunday at our little apartment. After a morningful of responsibilities, we ended up in the living room, sleepy and more ready for a nap than any other kind of plan.

But we didn't do that. Why? Because that would have canceled out an entire night of sleep for me, and because it was sunny and glowy and golden out. When you live in Vancouver, you don't waste days like these.

So we hopped in the car and headed for Squamish, Americanos in hand, ready to see our immediate world. The view along the way couldn't really be described as anything less than breathtaking: snow-covered mountains, sun-washed seas, dark green trees dotting slate-gray rock faces.

And us, traversing the winding road through it all.

The sun was bright enough to make the whole world look lit from within.

When we reached Squamish, we drove around the village checking out the new places being built for the coming 2010 Olympics. We also accidentally drove into a subsidized-housing community with a lot of speedbumps, after each of which Catherine apologized profusely.

"Oh, I'm sorry."

"It's okay, you didn't build them!"

"Oh, crap. I'm sorry."

"It's fine!"

"Geez, that one was HUGE. I'm sorry."

"I forgive you."

We headed home soon afterwards, pausing on the way to take a look at Shannon Falls. The water in the creek bed was clear enough to make out every single rock and stone.

Once home, we sat down to read and write in the waning sun of the afternoon. And then we realized that neither of us felt like cooking; we felt more like indulging a bad, bad craving. So we put on our flip flops and yoga pants and headed out to buy toilet paper and go through the drive-thru at McDonalds.

We drove to the water's edge to eat our horrible, horrible treat. On the way, we were struck by nearly uncontrollable laughter at our situation.

  1. Comfy pants.
  2. 30 rolls of TP riding shotgun.
  3. McDonalds cheeseburgers.
  4. Heading to notorious make-out spot to listen to old Billy Joel and eat greasy food while in other cars, people attended to more... carnal duties.
The police even drove by to look for suspicious people. We were... not suspicious. More geeky.

Once our cravings for sodium were sated, we came home, where we now sit, listening to music, attending to various life chores and stuff in general.

And well-stocked with TP.

11:17:19 AM    well, yes, but...  []

late night listlets.

Yes, yes, I know... I was supposed to have movie reviews in this spot, and instead, all you've gotten is a crap quiz. I hear your grumblings, you lot. And I'll get to it.

But it's ever so late just now. So what you get is... a little tangle of lists.

Ten People Who Should Be More Apologetic Than I Am

I am a fretful apologizer... it's one of my worst idiosyncrasies. But at least I can admit that I'm... well, a bit off. Not everyone is so willing to point out their own faults. Or to have so many, at that. And so here is my list of ten people who should have been sorry a long time ago, and don't appear to be.
  1. Larry King
  2. Paul Walker
  3. Enrique Iglesias
  4. Paris Hilton
  5. Howard Schultz
  6. At least half of the Baldwin brothers, at any given point.
  7. Pat Robertson
  8. Bob Saget
  9. Madonna
  10. The Church of Scientology
Ten Places I Could Stand To Be Right Now

I'm happy to be where I am, tis true. But there are always destinations to be discovered and vacations to be taken, aren't there?
  1. At a sidewalk cafe in Prague, sipping coffee and reading a good, good novel. And people watching.
  2. In a cabin near the top of a good hill in Aspen, checking out cold, twinkling stars from my quilt-wrapped perch on a porch swing, and sipping coffee from a big warm mug.
  3. On a warm, sun-bright beach in Jamaica, ready to wade into baby-blue waters.
  4. In the middle of a field in Saskatchewan, checking out the forever sky, hands warm in mittens.
  5. At a cafe at the top of a tower, eating decadent tapas and laughing late into the night.
  6. Running laughing through a darkened city square in Florence, hearing my heels click on the ground, twirling my skirt, and tossing coins into the fountain to wish for things I already have.
  7. On a dock listening to the wind roar, on the island of my younger days.
  8. Sauntering past closed shops in some touristy part of California, marveling at the cliches but secretly feeling like I'm in a movie.
  9. In a hammock by a bungalow near Nai Thon beach in Thailand.
  10. Laughing over brunch somewhere with all of you. Can you imagine?
Ten Words I Overused Today

Yes, it's true. Evidently I had not an ounce of self-control! I just kept babbling in the same darn way, all day long.
  1. Coffee
  2. Precarious
  3. Cough
  4. Marinade
  5. Prevaricate
  6. Ridiculous
  7. Sleepy
  8. Fresh
  9. Blog
  10. Quiz
Ten Things I Should Have Cooked, But Didn't

Why wasn't I creative? All I did was lemon-rosemary chicken and spring greens. Bah!
  1. Madras curry
  2. Shepherd's Pie
  3. Linguine Carbonara
  4. Salmon tartlets in phyllo pastry
  5. Coq au vin
  6. Fajitas with steak
  7. Lamb souvlaki
  8. Macaroni and cheese
  9. Baked salmon with lemon-brown sugar glaze
  10. Eggplant parmigiana
Mmmm!

Ten Excuses For Not Blogging Properly Today

I know you don't even need one, but here's ten!
  1. Laptop was sent down Niagara Falls in a Houdini-like manouever
  2. Wait -- who needs another reason than that?
