new blogcabin feature: bel objet.Every few days (minutes, whatever), I'm going to pop something into my right-hand sidebar, right below the calendar. This is a thing that I want to have but do not have. This is a way to have it without having it. Kind of.
Go with my flawed psychology.
I am calling it: bel objet. Then, when I put a new objet up, I will archive it with the post.
Today's objet is a coffee mug with a square of Pantone "Cameo Pink."
Why do I want it?
- It's pink.
- It holds coffee.
- It's Pantone!
As a former yearbook editor (hey! shut up!) I have a deep, yearning love for Pantone flip-strips and books and sheets. This was back in the day when we GLUED things, people. When we did LAYOUT. And the only computers to be had anywhere were running space shuttles.
No, no, we had a computer lab. But they were early MacIntoshes, which actually -- did you know this? -- contained apples!
Anyhow. I like this mug.

the blow-off. Today, I watched a skinny little girl wrestle with a pink balloon.
She'd blow it up about a third of the way, then let it go accidentally when she went to take a breath. And every time the air shot back in her face, she'd sneeze.
If she got it past a third of the way, she'd get excited and let it go, whereupon it would do a small air dance, and land on the ground, dirt sticking to the spit around the end.
Then she'd pick it back up, pop it back in her mouth, and proceed to try again.
Amount of sneezes caused by air loss: 13 Amount of flyaway incidents caused by letting go: 5 Cost of a small, pink balloon: 10 cents
Finishing the job and triumphantly holding your prize aloft: priceless.
