at least it never picked 'livin' la vida loca'.
Life has suddenly hit this weird fever pitch of intensity and WHOOOAAAA! we're moving in a month!
And signing a year-long lease!
And planning a road trip in the fall!
And re-designing my blog!
And making choices about our long distance provider!
I'm so tizzified that the weird Theresa guy came up to me tonight, and I was all, "Whatever, I'm not Theresa, " instead of poking him squarely in the eye. I had places to go and errands to run, after all. No time for stalkers!
Thank heavens for my little iPod and the moments of peace it affords me, because without it, I might be going a wee bit buggy. Now, don't be all, "iPods are socially isolating! You are typical of a disconnected generation! You are unplugging from the Cosmos!" on me, because YES, YES! I am unplugging from the Cosmos.
Sometimes that's the only way to maintain any semblance of sanity.
Not that I'm sane, or that I maintain my semblance to any noticeable degree. In fact, my semblance is overgrown and choking out the peonies.
But I digress.
My iPod Mini in Silver. His name is Quinn (Martin is the iBook, if you're keeping score at home.)
Quinn's last ten songs, at random (and I'm not editing out 'embarassments')
Lonely, Lonely -- Feist This Year's Love -- David Gray The Way You Move -- OutKast How Long -- Ace Georgia On My Mind -- Django Reinhardt This Fire -- Franz Ferdinand Exit Stage Right -- Badly Drawn Boy Ifiwouldaknew -- Musiq Soulchild Back In Black -- ACDC Beautiful Sorta -- Ryan Adams
Okay, if you can draw any kind of thread or theme from that selection, you're a better person than I am.
I do play games with the random shuffle, though. Sometimes, just as a song is about to begin (and I do this with people when we listen to the radio, too), I'll say, "This song describes my love life for the next six months."
(I don't say it out loud, mind you -- people might stare. More than they usually do, that is.)
Usually the song ends up being something like Solider Girl by the Polyphonic Spree or Stayin' Alive, neither of which you'd want to be even your most short-term lovin' theme.
Here, let me give you some examples of what I mean with Quinn right now. I'll just click the wheel to advance by song, and see what he gives me:
What will I dance to at my wedding, Quinn?
Bridge Over Troubled Water -- Simon and Garfunkel (hmmm...)
What song best describes my personality, Quinn?
Evil and A Heathen -- Franz Ferdinand (okay, that one's just awesome... )
What song best describes my future manfriend, Quinn?
Late -- Kanye West (you're not kidding... )
If you could dedicate one song to my blog readers, Quinn, what would it be?
Cannonball -- Damien Rice (I have no idea what that means.)
Maybe he's getting a little testy.
I'll let him recharge.
Which reminds me -- I should recharge, too.
Before I do, I'm going to offer up the following requests:
Please give us any moving advice you might have. And by moving, I mean WITH A TRUCK, not tearfully inspirational thoughts. Can you, if you own an iPod, give me your random shuffle answer to the following query: "What should Blogcabin's theme song be?" And if you don't have an iPod, you can give me a question to ask Quinn. He's totally okay with being a really overpriced 8-Ball!
Also:
