Speaking at a Pentagon news briefing, Brig. Gen. Jay Hood, commander of the Joint Task Force at Guantanamo Bay, said [...] that the Qur'an -- the Islamic holy book -- has not been purposefully mishandled by interrogators at the facility.
Sure, interrogation techniques might include:
  • verbal abuse
  • psychological coercion
  • physical intimidation
  • sleep deprivation
  • placing heavily soiled underwear over prisoners faces
  • leaving naked prisoners handcuffed in painful positions for hours or days
  • attaching electrodes to sensitive body parts
  • releasing vicious dogs on prisoners
  • forcing prisoners to perform sex acts on one another
  • rape [see first post]
  • beating prisoners
  • beating family members in front of prisoners
  • sometimes beating prisoners to death
  • showing prisoners pictures of dead prisoners whose bodies were defiled and humiliated
  • and the ever popular stacking of prisoners in naked pyramids…
But purposefully mishandling the Qur’an!? Never!

Brig. Gen. Hood concluded by pocketing the gold watch he had been swinging throughout the briefing and slowly passed his hand in front of his face as he said “these aren’t the war crimes you’re looking for”.

Still fighting the second world war...?

60 years after WWII ends, two soldiers emerge from the jungle. According to reports, the Japanese men, who are both in their 80s, said they had been hiding on the island of Mindanao, which is 600 miles from Manila, since before the end of the second world war.
The Kyodo news agency identified them as Yoshio "Skipper" Yamakawa, 87, and Tsuzuki "Gilligan" Nakauchi, 85. The two men endured scores of bungled rescue attempts and at least one unconfirmed meeting with the Harlem Globetrotters.
